ADOPTABLE HORSES - AVAILABLE NOW

We rescue equines to protect them for the rest of their lives, not just for the moment. Our promise to them is that they will never again see the stalls of an auction yard, or be at the mercy of inhumane people. Our goal is that these majestic animals be in loving FOREVER homes.

It takes time to find what seems to be the perfect placement, and allow a horse or mule to be adopted. However, we are aware that sometimes life happens and adoptions don't work out as planned. Because of this, our contract reads that they come back to us if the placement no longer works. They can't be sold or rehomed. We ALWAYS take them back, no questions asked.

SOL

22 year-old gaited horse/pony cross. She came to us from the local loose horse sale in 2022. Sol had been a brood mare all her life but her owners were getting out of the breeding service, so they no longer had use for her. She is halter broke, stands well for the farrier and vet. Sol gets along with everyone, even the bossy mare at the rescue :-)

Adoption fee $500

MACY

A beautiful paint in her mid-20s, we found Macy at the loose horse sale in July of 2022. She is a saddle horse that needs a little refresher; a lead mare – not mean, but top girl on the totem pole. Macy is friendly, but chooses when and what she wants to do. No health issues to date.

This girl does well in herd settings. A little maintenance is required but she is a sweetheart.

CRYSTAL

A 33 year old buckskin is looking to retire at her perfect home. Crystal is an owner surrender, friendly, sweet and likes attention. Crystal has a sway back so she is not able to be ridden, but would make a good lead horse for a child.

This girl does well in herd settings. A little maintenance is required but she is a sweetheart.

GINGER

An owner surrendered mare, we got Ginger in August of 2023. She is a Fjord Horse cross about 12-15 years old. Ginger is a good walk/trot horse for a small rider, but may need a little "tune up" as she was a kids' horse before coming to the rescue. She gets along with everyone, and is safe to be around. Ginger has Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction (PPID or Cushings). She gets Prascend daily and because she has foundered in the past, Ginger gets ongoing corrective trimming for prevention. A “dry lot” (a turnout area with little or no vegetation) is also needed to provide continued support for her recovery.

RIVER

An owner-surrendered unhandled mare, in July of 2023. They came from the Wind River reservation in Wyoming. Wind was scheduled for surgery on her legs (Angular Limb Deformity) when it was discovered that the extent of deformation was beyond repair.

Unsure of River’s age, we are guessing she is under 10 because of how playful she is with the other horses. Once almost untouchable, she has really blossomed into a curious though sensitive mare since losing Wind. She will approach people to sniff, and will occasionally accept a gentle touch. She has worn a halter, but is by no means halter broke. She is smart and takes to training quickly.

River will need an experienced owner; potential owners will be evaluated on handling before she is released.

BLOSSOM

An unhandled 3 year-old mare from the loose horse sale in May of 2023, Blossom is from a reservation in northwestern Montana. She was emaciated when we first got her, but has gained weight and is ready for adoption. She has low vision in her right eye. Blossom is not halter broke and is terrified of ropes, but is very curious and likes attention. We have made gains in earning her trust, and foster mom has been able to brush her. Blossom gets along well with other horses.

Blossom will need an experienced owner; potential owners will be evaluated on handling before she is released.

TILLY (MATILDA)

This unhandled mare from a northern Montana reservation was found at the loose horse sale in May of 2023. Tilly had 2 day old Bello by her side, but we are unsure of her age. Bello has since been adopted but Tilly is very defensive and still learning to trust people. She will not acccept being cornered, and will lash out if pressured. Tilly is curious, loves food, and tends to ride higher in the pecking order with the other horses.

Tilly will need an experienced owner; potential owners will be evaluated on handling before she is released.

SPOTTY

An owner-surrendered pony, Spotty was adopted in March of 2023. Unfortunately, his new family felt he was no longer a good fit and he returned to the sanctuary in November of 2023. Spotty is a sweet boy that is reluctant but will sniff and give hand kisses. He has never acted aggressive or mean, but he does guard grain when it comes out. Spotty needs a horse or possibly a pony companion; he has become attached to them in every case we have seen. He may do better with a gelding or a confident mare, otherwise he tends to get pushy. Spotty is head shy, so some confidence work would be good for him, but he got along great with the kids in his previous home. He has a back leg deformity, so he cannot be ridden. Spotty has been through a lot in his life, and needs a home where people will love on him and work to bring out his confidence.

KIDD

This 12 year-old gelding Quarter Horse was an owner-surrender from Roundup that came to us in April of 2023. Kidd was adopted in September of 2023, but due to her health issues his owner was forced to return him to the sanctuary. Kidd is about 15 hands high and "green broke". He stands well for the farrier & vet. He will load in to a trailer but needs more practice. Kidd loves to play and needs an experienced person who is soft and patient.

GUS

This 24 year-old Tennessee Walker is 16 hands tall. Gus was an owner-surrender that we got in May of 2023. He was adopted in September of 2023, but his family chose to return him to the sanctuary the following January. Since his return, Gus was diagnosed with Cushings and takes 1/2 pill a day. Gus is broke to ride for an intermediate rider. He has been ridden on trails and in lessons. He loads, and stands well for farrier and vet. He is one horse that is very easy to fall in love with!

SNOWDROP & JASMINE

We got this a bonded pair from Southern Montana in October 2023. Estimated to be in their mid-20s, these girls were extremely neglected. They were almost starved and their feet were in bad shape when someone from the family called us to help. Snowdrop and Jasmine now live with one of our fosters; they continue to gain weight and get healthier everyday. Snow was recently diagnosed with Cushing’s and takes one pill of Prascend a day.

Although they came to us bonded, they have discovered their own identities and will be available as single adoptions.
